Connecting asset
integrity services
September - November 2019 (3 months)
Driving the creation of user flows, Creation of the prototype and conceptual wireframes, User research synthesis, Pitch story alignment
Objective
Deliver fast, lowers cost, and accurate NDT results for builders and asset owners with full transparency to regulatory bodies.
Spectrum of frictions
Technician results can't always be trusted
NDT interpretations are subjective
Manual plots result in location errors
Delays in project timelines
Asset integrity inspections cost billions in unnecessary downtime
Integrity data is not managed, lack of data transparency
Key Goals
Provide a digital solution with different access points that would connect asset integrity services and NDT results data from initial construction to decommissioning
Solution
Application for various stakeholders that would leverage the same data presented differently and at different granularity depending on the stakeholder needs. (1) Technician would receive hands on instructions to do the scanning (2) Manager would receive scanning results with defect detection needing an approval (3) Manager having overview of all scans being performed (4) Asset owner seeing the overview of all scans as well as the recommended maintenance in order to keep their assets integral and avoid downtime.
Process
Mapping user flows
Learning about the processes that happen in order to interpret the NDT scanning results and accept them and who is responsible for what helped us shaped the main user journey reflected in our application. It also helped us understand the scope where our digital solution plugs in.
Creating feature clusters
Highlighting the most prominent features and assigning the use case to them helped us see clearly what functionality needs to be presented in the prototype in order to show its value proposition.
Capturing requirements
By knowing jobs to be done we could go and ask for necessary data that helps users achieve their goals. We could map those to the feature clusters to create a comprehensive view of the application flow
The solution
What: Networked NDT devices
For who: NDT Technician
The NDT technician receives information on his side that he was assigned to a new project and is able to receive all the instructions to perform the scan. Once the scan was performed the data is transferred to the NDC system and the Supervisor can see it in real-time.
What: AI algorithm detects in real-time
For who: QAQC team, Project QC Coordinator,Regulatory Body Inspector, Owner’s Representative
The subjectivity of the interpretations, quality of the scan, and the location detection are no longer the frictions. The supervisor can assess the quality of the scans and alarm the technician if the quality wasn’t right as soon as the data gets transferred to the cloud.
Once the scan quality is correct, he is informed if the scan has any defect detected. NDC gives all the necessary visual and data support/clues allowing the supervisor to asses the defects in a short amount of time with the exact location. This information can be easily shared with the welding team.

What: Digital certification
For who: Asset owner, Project Manager, PrincipalSurveyor at regulatory agency
At the same time, the asset owner is able to track the progress on the certificate of the asset and get real-time data about the scans as they are being performed in order to be aware of any delays for project completion. Thanks to the AI system, the asset owner can be assured about the objectivity and the accuracy of the results. The elimination of the subjectivity allows him to track the defects faster, eliminate the delays and plan for the shipment of the assets more efficiently. He is also able to see the quality of the scans, the number of defects, as well as the possible reasons behind their occurrence. Asset owner is able to generate the reports with the data and analytics of his own choice.
Regulator body would have a view over the certification as well.
Low fidelity wireframes
What: Asset baseline library
For who: Asset owner, Project Manager, PrincipalSurveyor at regulatory agency
The inspection company is able to upload the files at any time to our system. The smart report system will extract the necessary information from the report and populate the entries ready to be submitted. The location of reported will be recognized automatically and upload the file accordingly.
What: Asset integrity management platform
For who: Asset owners, classification societies& regulators, refurbishment team, inspection service providers
Asset owner is owning a refinery and would like to track the integrity of this asset in order to be informed about the lifetime of the specific components and possibly extend their lifetimes. Our system is able to asses the reports incoming to the system what maintenance and inspections are needed in order to t extend the lifetime in comparison with the OEM’s predictions. NDC also informs the asset owner about the upcoming scheduled inspections and matches them with the recommended inspections providing efficiency in planning the operations.
